Waldlicht creates and interface between the encyclopaedic examination of the domestic flora in the cycle coitus and Tim Otto Roth's exploration of organic light in the framework of Meeresleuchten. With Waldlicht he palpably moves closer with the living light to be found all but right on your doorstep. If you loose the way on a balmy summer evening in a wood, you might discover a soft chartreuse glow on the forest’s ground. The light appearing at times slightly psychedelic is not the gleam of the elves and sprites, but it originates from an organism which belongs neither to the empire of Faun nor to the empire of Flora. It is a network of mycelia of bioluminescent fungi pervading the forest’s soil. The continuous emission of this “cold” light is supposedly due to metabolic processes. Well grounded botanists find the mycelia on deadwood, under the bark of a stump or in thicker layer of leaves. |

Waldlicht explores especially the „fox fire“ - the light emitted by the mycelia of the widespread honey fungus (Armillaria mellea). The luminescent hyphae and mycelia cords are exposed directly for several minutes to the light sensitive film.
